Taken Too Early - Bill Hinzman - (October 24, 1936 - February 5, 2012)

Earlier this evening, reports starting come in that Bill Hinzman has passed away at the age of 75. It is said that he died after losing his battle with cancer. Fans of Night of the Living Dead know Bill as the cemetery zombie in the landmark zombie film. Bill also appeared in George Romero’s The Crazies and Season of the Witch, among other horror films. In the late 80′s Bill Hinzman tried directed two of his own horror movies: The Majorettes and Flesh Eaters. Over the years, Bill Hinzman has appeared at numerous horror conventions and film festivals. Last year my daughter Jillian and I had the chance to meet Bill at the Saturday Nightmares Convention in New Jersey and I was blown away by him, not to mention it was a moment that Jillian will never forget. He is a horror movie icon that will be missed by generations of horror fans.

For me, fortunately, between writing and watching many of my favorite horror movies, I have been able stay somewhat sane. However, that is not always enough. Alice Jacobs is Dead (Short Film)

Today at  the Saturday Nighmares Expo in Jersey City, my daughter and I had a chance to screen Alex Horwitz's award winning short film Alice Jacobs is Dead starring John La Zar and Adrienne Barbeau. This zombie love story had all of the elements that make cinema great, and in the short 21 minute run-time, it sucked everyone in and made you want more (which hopefully is in the works).

Plot/ Dr. Ben Jacobs saved the world. The drug he created allowed mankind to fight back against the Z-virus, which nearly destroyed civilization entirely. Now, in the aftermath of the crisis, he’s trying to cure the last victims of the virus. But what will happen when he brings his mysterious work home?

For me, seeing Adrienne Barbeau play a zombie and wreak havoc on some  people was amazing. She definitely steals the show. In all, this was a great film and much better than the majority of zombie films that are being churned out to ruin the genre. The special effects, the plot, the script, and the acting are all top notch. It is a shame that the movie lasted such a short time, another 90 minutes may have made it perfect! For screening schedules and other information, check out the website at http://www.strange-case.com/.
