Abominable (2006)

I was actually a bit excited when I saw Abominable (2006) in the used bin today (I had watched parts last night). As I have mentioned before, Bigfoot and mythological creatures have always fascinated me, and while I know they are usually terrible, I do enjoy the majority of creature features that have come to light in recent years.

Plot/ It has been sighted 42,000 times in 68 countries; a creature of myth and legend known by several names; Yeti, Sasquatch and the infamous Bigfoot! We have hunted it for years, but what happens when it decides to hunt us? "Abominable" centers on a man recovering from a mountain climbing accident, trapped in a remote cabin in the woods, who sees the legendary beast, and must convince someone to believe him, before the monster goes on a bloody rampage.

This movie may be the best of the SyFy monster movies. Yes, the idea is a manipulated version of the Hitchcock classic Rear Window, with Bigfoot taking over as the killer, but it works! A strong cast pulls the script and plot together quite nicely and the effects are A LOT better the most of the ones that are being used by the more recent SyFy films, although the Bigfoot creature was less than believable when finally shown. All in all, this was much more enjoyable than Yeti and one that I highly recommend.

  1. You know, it actually was the best BF movie SyFy ever put out. Ever since "Legend of Boggy Creek," I always thought that the scariest movie would involve being in a cabin in the woods under attack by BF and this kind of gave me that feel. It could have been so much better plot wise and scripting and even more tension, but having a vulnerable lead character was a smart move.
