A Conspiracy of Lies: Flight 370 to 911 (2014)

I decided to take a couple more days away from the blog as I continued to try to rid myself of this nagging cold. Fortunately, it seems to be working, as I am finally starting to feel normal. I did watch a few movies though, including the 2014 documentary Conspiracy of Lies: Flight 370 to 911.

Plot/ We have now discovered the NSA can and does spy on every American citizen and we only need the national media to see that many of the New World Order plans are already in place.

I live conspiracy theories and watching documentaries on any and all conspiracies. However, I do not just subscribe to all of the different theories that exist. Of course, I also enjoy when these documentaries are coherent. Even if they are low budget, they can present fact (or theories) in a way that is informative. Unfortunately, this movie is all over the place and never truly presents anything new that is groundbreaking (although, I did like the Ebola portion). In all, there are excessively many topics in this documentary including Flight 370, 911 (Building 7), MK-Ultra, JFK, Roswell, Ebola, and even Reptilians. While all of those subjects can be interesting topics, combining them into one video could never do them justice. In the end, while the narration does make do a decent job laying out the theories, there really is no new evidence to back up the claims that are being portrayed in this documentary and it definitely hurts the overall feel of the film. While it did help pass some time in an evening, it did not leave a lasting impression. Be warned.

Suspect Zero (2004)

After another busy week with homework, soccer, and softball, it is time to find something interesting to watch. After deciding to pass on the continuation of my Fringe marathon, I decided that I wanted to venture into the darker world of serial killers. My selection for the evening is the 2004 horror/thriller Suspect Zero.

Plot/ A mysterious serial killer is hunting other serial killers - and one FBI agent suspects there may be more to the vigilante than they imagine.

It had been some time since I last watched Suspect Zero, and I will say that time did in a few ways help. This serial killer based thriller does have some good moments, although it is far from great. This one has some decent pacing that works within the premise, an interesting storyline, some solid cinematography, and does boast a perfectly cast Ben Kingsley in a darker role. Unfortunately, the overall cast does lack chemistry, and the scripting is uneven, both flaws that help bring the overall feel down. In the end, this may not be one that I search out to rent or watch again, but it was an entertaining entry in the saturated serial killer/FBI genre. If you like that type of movie, check it out. If not, there is nothing new in here to make it memorable.  

The Banshee Chapter (2013)

Yesterday, I unfortunately battled a headache all day after my 2.5 hour drive to work in the snow. While I do not mind driving in the snow, eight inches of fresh snow is not fun. Now the forecast is for an inch of sleet, I cannot win, especially as the institute never even posts a delay. To help me pass my evening after NCIS, I decided upon the 2013 flick, The Banshee Chapter, something I had never heard of until tonight.

Plot/ A Journalist Anne Roland explores the disturbing links behind her friend's sudden disappearance, an ominous government research chemical, and a disturbing radio broadcast of unknown origin.

There eare times when I stumble upon a movie fand come out totally surprised by what I have found. That was the case with this movie and the underlining MK-Ultra undertones. With an interesting storyline, some decent acting (for a lie budget film), and a nice mixture of real-time and found footage, this one definitely exceeded my expectations. Sure, some of the paving drunks of, the plot is choppy, and the sound is all over, but that does very little to bring this one down. In the end, this ius one of the better low budget films I have seen in some time, and more importantly, it had an inkling of originality. If you have chance, check it out.
