Released Today - Walking Before Dawn

If you have been reading my blog, you would know that early in March I finished my first fiction novel, After the Static. While that is still at the editor and waiting on cover design, I have a ton of focus and energy. With that, I decided that I would edit/rewrite my first dark poetry book Walking Before Dawn.  Today, that work has paid off as the new (and much improved) book hit the shelves at Amazon.

Walking Before Dawn

In every small town across the world, stories exist of strange creatures surviving in the dark corners of the abyss waiting to be discovered. Are they real? For some people, these shadows take on many different faces within the dark corridor of their minds. Yet, within this darkness, there is a light that can be found, and possibly even a story that can ascend when viewed through a dramatic eye. While some of these visions are obscure and foreboding, these tales can also take on a life full of brightness and joy. In Walking Before Dawn, the passages of despair are opened to expose the soul of the abyss and see the beauty, pain, and desires that endure in the unseen world.

Take Me

The eyes peer inside my silence as I drift,
My mind trapped inside your poisoned void,
I am helpless, hypnotized within the tainted inferno,
Impaled by deceit, and cravings of flesh-
The illicit desires that line the canvas.

Have me; I am yours…

The needles guide me through the spiral cliffs,
My eyes blind to the beauty hidden inside your vines,
I am powerless, fascinated by inconceivable pleas,
Tortured by darkness, and the forbidden fruit-
The serpent draws near; trap me in your guise.

Take me; I am waiting…

He stands before the depths

Staring at the crossroads ahead

Deciding what bed to lay

To his right, the teeth of leviathan

Glistening in the murky underbelly of existence

To his left, only dismay and destruction

The great chasm lies ahead

Decisions at hand

His path is his path

He must face reality

Yes or no

North or south

Left or right

Good or evil

Around any corner could be salvation

Alone

Waiting to be captured

His heart pounds

Pulling toward the despair

But, his head

His eyes

Feel one with leviathan’s lair

Should he venture into the unknown?

Does he have a choice?

Standing on deck

Searching for the clarity

The answers

An empty soul being taken against his will

The sun sets

Tears fall

Is his last breath near?

The unquiet battle rages on

Turmoil grows

The voices cry out

Screams and laughter haunt his mind

His lifeless shell stands alone

The sea?

He steps toward the destruction and dismay

His last whisper

Goodbye my friend

Leviathan mourns

The following poem Elisabeth, inspired by the legend of the Green Lady Ghost (from Connecticut),  was published in Walking Before Dawn and found its way into Whispering Spirits Magazine.

Elisabeth

A lone tombstone

Elisabeth

Alone in the heart of this sanctuary

Are you the one?

The maiden we search for

The Green Lady

The legends vary

Drowned in a swamp

Taken by a scorned lover

Satan's seductress

I am here

Alone

Come to me

Many have seen you walking

Hitchhiking on the lone dirt road

Traveling the downward spiral into the depths of stone

Snap

I take a picture

A beautiful light shines clear

Is that you?

Unveil your vortex

Open my blindness

Let me share your story

Symbols burnt into the earth surround you

Did they succeed?

Summoning you from your slumber

Conjuring your restless spirit

Flirting with an unknown evil

If so, can I enter?

I belong with you

Come to me

Silence

Suddenly I see a figure

Is it you dear?

No

Worse, it is legion

These cloaked figures rise from the ashes

Surrounding me

They want my heart

My soul

My life

They will not succeed

I turn to the lone marker

Your vortex is now visible

I run

Dive into your sanctuary

Everything is clear

My life is full

But, my heart is empty

Time to leave

To Disappear

I no longer fear death

Reality is certain

Fate

Destiny

Time

Can you feel my pain?

The dark ones still surround us

Why do you protect me?

If I survive, will I harbor your secrets?

We will meet again

Soon, the enemies retreat

Escape is possible

I see truth

The tragedy

Thank you

I will share it with the collective

A rainy night

Alone on the porch

Where is he?

Your true love

You venture out, holding hope in your heart

It was that old witch

She had him

There through the wilderness you see her cave

Her lair

You peer inside

You witness that fateful embrace

Bodies entwined

A single tear falls as your heart breaks

Time stands still

Deaths door opens inside the lake

Entering

Satan laughs

The green depths have stained you through the years

Your clothes

Your Skin

But, not your heart

This is your curse

Alone, you walk the road

Searching for answers

An angel to break this spell

Could there be one in the old house

In the witches cave

Anywhere

Let me hold you

Maybe I am the one

I am leaving now

Returning to my world

My domain

My reality

I will miss you

I have to share your story, show these pictures

Proof of your existence

My life lies on a different path

Many lives to touch

Children to mold

I will never forget you

Your lone tombstone

Your vortex

Your touch
