The Werewolf (1956)

Last night while trying to ignore the Super Bowl, I was searching for something to watch. Thats when I stumbled upon the 1956 movie The Werewolf.  With the remake of the Wolfman being released this week, I said what the hell and jumped in. What I found was an interesting horror film about a man who becomes a werewolf as a result of an experiment after being injected  with a serum to fight radiation poison. This caused the fateful reaction, although this reaction was uncontrollable, no full moon required!

After the injection, the man finds himself lost in a remote village called Mountaincrest suffering from amnesia and totally unaware that he was about  to become a bloodthirsty werewolf.  Having watched many horror films over the years, I believe that this is the first movie that I saw that used science to cause the werewolf transformation.

In all, this film was definitely worth watching The performances are good (especially Steven Ritch as the werewolf), the location is perfect, and  the script is sound. Unfortunately, the effects are not the greatest and the creature does nothing to create even  a tension (although it is better than some of the other mosters from that period). real people. I caught the movie On Demand in the free horror section, check. it out. It will definitely start to get the blood flowing in anticipation for The Wolfman.

vote it up!

  1. Yup you'd be amazed what you can find on On-Demand Cable at times when there's nothing else on or it's 3:45 in the morning (what? that's when I'm up ain't it obvious? :P lol )

You find some real stinkbombs that are cheese-tacular to riff sarcastic on, but you also find some real classics too. (Just got finished watching Hammer's "Vampire Lovers" in fact) I THINK I saw "Werewolf" on that same list of stuff. I'll have to peep it out now thanks! :)

  2. I'm the same way, I suffer through some really bad ones in the middle of the night.

Vampie Lovers is awesome! In fact, Impact usually runs at least one Hammer Film at all times.

  3. yep not a bad little film at all. I watched this one fairly recently, actually. But then I love B movies, and this is definitely a "B"
