Stitches (2012)

Sometimes I enjoy some humor mixed in with the horror I watch. Unfortunately, finding some original/horror comedy that is worth watching can be a challenge. My next selection was not a challenge, 2012s evil clown flick Stitches. 

Plot/ A clown comes back from the dead to haunt those who took his life during a fatal party mishap. 

while I had my week silence, i had to found at least one evil clown movie to watch and I am glad i found Stitches. Yes, this issue a genre that has been done before, but this one actually adds something to the horror/comedy genre that is actually refreshing. For a low budget entry it does a great job mixing comedy and some over-the-top gore into some creative deaths. The acting is solid and there is just enough storyline and laughable to keep you entertained. Sure, the begun beginning is not the greatest and it actually brings the flick down a notch and there is an overall lack of characterization, but that is not the end of the world. In the end, this is an interesting joy horror comedy that actually embraces it's place within the slasher genre. Not a perfect movie, but it is worth watching.Give it a go, you may be surprised.

I hate being confined to my recliner and cannot wait for this incision to heal so I can get back to some normal daily events. Until then, I guess I am trapped by horror movies, writing and the weirdness that are part of me. With that in mind, I finished the first post-surgery art piece today... Slimeball the Clown, a OOAK zombie clown wall hanging. Who knows, once I recover, maybe I will sacrifice some of these to my ETSY page.

House of Fears (2007)

After taking a small break to recover from the weekend that was, I figured it was time to jump into October with something creepy (at least I hope). My selection for the evening is the 2007, House of Fears.

Plot / The night before a local haunted house opens for Halloween, six friends sneak in for a few hours of fun. Soon after entering, they find themselves trapped inside with no way out. Their evening of fun rapidly turns into their worst nightmare as they begin to die and disappear in the most freakish of manners. With every effort to escape blocked, the survivors find themselves being driven deeper into the strange world of terror. Unable to tell what is real and what is counterfeit, they must trust one another, even if it kills them.

When I saw this in my queue, I thought it at least sounded interesting. Going in, I expected the typical modern teen slasher-type and yes, that is pretty much, what I got. However, I will admit that it was better than I expected. The acting was decent, the script was solid and the cinematography and creepy characterization was outstanding (especially the clown and gravedigger). There was definitely some creativity involved in developing the death scenes. The movie was far from perfect though, lacking gore and featuring an uneven soundtrack. In addition, I almost had a strange, are they trying to revisit some of the classic Waxwork, feel throughout. Overall, this was a slightly above average slasher flick with some good moments, and at a quick 88 (or so) minutes, it will not suck the life out of you.

New Sideshow Addition

The other night I was bored and finished the first Zombie Clown to add to my sideshow at the house. In all, my collection of weird items has started coming together nicely over the last three months and looks to continue growing.
