The Dead Don't Die (2019)

As I attempted to get some stuff done on my computer, I was looking for something to watch. That’s when I broke down and picked this one. While I am not a huge horror/comedy person, I decided to change it up and went with 2019s The Dead Don’t Die.

Plot: The focus is on the sleepy small town of Centerville where the dead become undead.

Dark zombie comedy is hard to pull off and this is a great example of that. While the cast is outstanding, the movie never takes full advantage of the talent at hand. Sadly, the comedic elements fall flat and that brings the entire film down. There are some attempts at actual horror, but those seem misguided and added simply for effect. This one sits somewhere between comedy and horror and never really brings the two together. Yes, the performances are solid and it wasn’t a complete drag, but it definitely did nothing to etch its name in stone next to some great movies in the genre.  In the end, I can see why this one didn’t pop up on my RADAR when it came out, it’s slow and lacks definition. Stay away unless you have nothing else to watch. 

UFO History: December 4, 2019

For our entry today, I returned back to the UFO Sightings Daily website to find something interesting. 

This account comes from Chicago, Illinois and took place on December 4, 2019. It was originally investigated by MUFON case #104897. 

Witnesses state that around sunrise multiple giant glowing white orbs hovered over Lake Michigan. One eyewitness watched as the objects hovered in place before sliding horizontally and then shooting straight up in a vertical line before vanishing. 

The eyewitness statement: 

Driving on a clear morning, (I) pulled over to view the sunrise over Lake Michigan near my home. Dotted in the sky hovering objects over water, shining brightly, no clouds, commercial jets flying much higher on approach to O'Hare with recognizable red flashing tail and wing lights.Took just a few photos, watched for 5 mins. As (the) objects hovered in place, then shot across the sky horizontally and straight-up at speeds not achievable by modern aviation known to me. I have witnessed other objects over Lake Michigan especially in 2012 during the NATO Summit held in Chicago during President Obama's administration. Over 3-days I witnessed major activity during early morning hours, capturing unbelievable photos that were so disturbing I never reported and only have a few photos to this day. I felt strongly that objects knew I had taken photographic evidence and rarely shared experience.

The report of giant orbs is not uncommon. These UFOs are one of the top 3 most commonly seen. These reports vary but all have similar traits regardless of the size including the fluorescent glow.. 

This type of sighting also appears to be common near water with the amount of sightings leading many to dive into research into underwater activity aka USO activity.

Missing 411: The Hunted (2019)

While I didn't post yesterday on my birthday,  I was busy in documentary world. I love documentaries, especially ones that cover interesting subjects. Yesterday was the Missing 411 series, as it seems to be popping up on my social media feed quite a bit.  The first one I'm reviewing is Missing 411: The Hunted. 

Plot: Hunters have disappeared from wildlands without a trace for hundreds of years. David Paulides presents the haunting true stories of hunters experiencing the unexplainable in the woods of North America.

This is a great series and the research that David Paulides has done is tremendous. Not only are these cases fascinating,  there definitely seems to be something odd taking place.  This becomes even clearer when you do mass map comparisons with cave systems and other supernatural sightings.  The combination of interviews and research brings this series of events into a clear light and the cases are extremely interesting.  It is definitely a series that is worth watching,  especially if you are interested in unsolved mysteries. 

Synchronic (2019)

After a few busy days with the yard and watching social media for updates on the UFO thing in Las Vegas and the real-lide scene from Night of the Comet taking place in New York, I decided to relax and catch up on some movie watching.  The first flick I watched today was the 2019 Sci-Fi film,  Synchronic.

Plot: Two New Orleans paramedics' lives are ripped apart after they encounter a series of horrific deaths linked to a designer drug with bizarre, otherworldly effects.

I had never heard of this one before it popped up on my Amazon page and the premise sounded different so i gave it a shot. What i fiund was an interesting storyline, that while a touch confusing at times, kept me engaged. There was some pretty good cinematography, decent performances, and some intriguing moments. Yes, there were some pacing issues and there were some major plot holes to navigate, but those did not totally ruin the experience for me. Of course, with those elements, i am sure some casual viewers will be totally turned off. In the end, this may not be groundbreaking or a movie that you should knock diwn the door to see, but if the air quality has you secluded, it will definitely be an interesting film to help you pass the time. 

The Silence (2019)

While I did take a day yesterday to pay respects to all those that have fallen, I couldn't stay away from a movie in the evening. So, after catching up on The Blacklist, I decided to check out The Silence from 2019. 

Plot: The story of a family struggling to survive in a world terrorized by a deadly primeval species that has evolved for millions of years in the pitch-darkness of a vast underground cave system, hunting only with their acute hearing ability. As the family seeks refuge in a remote haven where they can wait out the invasion, they start to wonder what kind of world will remain when they're ready to emerge.

When i sat down last night i want looking for a blockbuster,  but i hoped for something that was at least exciting. Unfortunately,  this wasn't it.  While this one wasn't terrible, and was watchable,  it had the potential to be a lot more. Featuring a solid cast, decent atmosphere, and a cool soundtrack, this one was littered with missed opportunities. The storyline was uneven,  the creatures themselves packed little punch, and the ending felt a little forced. In the end, this movie was a good time killer on a dreary afternoon, but not much more. 

The Hat Man: Documented Cases of Pure Evil (2019)

I have recently been in a research documentary mood.  I guess it comes with the territory of being limited by what I am allowed to do during my recovery.  While I have been slowly reorganizing my shop,  not being able to lift over 10 pounds frustrates me,  causing me to lose motivation.  One subject that has always interested me is the Hat Man, something that came back into focus when NFL Superstar Aaron Rodgers talked about his encounters with this mysterious entity.  So I dove back in with the documentary, The Hat Man: Documented Cases of Pure Evil.

Plot: Eyewitnesses share their stories of how they encountered an evil entity known as, The Hat Man.

I found this an interesting documentary that followed the tradition path with reenactments, interviews,  and documents pertaining to this mysterious character.  Of course, this one will be a like many others in this realm that engraved a specific theory and build upon it,  never fully dissecting into other theories that exist. Personally,  I like seeing things from every angle with serious discussions being brought forward.  Yes,  there the alternate theories were mentioned,  but never really explored to their fullest potential.  It is definitely trying to convince the audience of a potential theory instead of opening the doors of perception to create conversations. There are also some flaws with the technical aspects,  especially the audio quality throughout. The volume levels constantly needed adjustment creating some slight frustrations. In the end,  I did find  this interesting and informative although there was really no new infirmary given.   Yes, it won't be for everyone (exorcism skeptics). But, if you are a believer or are extension interested, you should enjoy it. 

The Vast of Night (2019)

Another Monday,  another early trip to the VA Medical Center for blood work. Unfortunately,  that is part of the new normal after receiving the love translated. At least,  or weather isn't that bad, so the drive isn't all that bad.  Knowing I had that this morning,  I wanted to watch something something mellow last night,  so I decided on the 2019 Sci-Fi mystery The Vast of Night.

Plot: In New Mexico in the 1950s, two kids search for the source of a mysterious frequency that has descended on their town; they soon uncover more than they had counted on.

I love movies that transport you to another time,  and this one did just TV that.  Another slow-burn, this Sci-Fi  mystery drama came off as almost a modern episode of the Twilight Zone or Night Gallery. The plot and storyline were solid,  the performances believable, and the overall quality was outstanding. Yes,  the movie could have been a little longer and a bit more captivating, but those are but minor flaws in what is a low budget gem. This one was well worth watching and satisfied my evenings desires. Unfortunately,  it won't be for everyone (especially those looking for action and adrenaline), but if you love an interesting story with Sci-Fi  and mystery themes, this one is for you.

Monster Fest 2019 Finished Now onto Creaturefest 2

This past weekend, we finished up vending at Monster Fest, in Chesapeake, VA. This was the first of three events for us at the Ringmaster's Realm and it was a great time. Not only were there a ton of cool vendors and costumes, there were some of my favorite Horror Hosts on hand. In fact, the Ringmaster's Realm was able to make a few sales to one of them with a couple items that may eventually make it into the show. 

As always in the case, Rob put on a fantastic event and I cannot wait for the details for next year to come out. Hopefully, if you are in the Hampton Roads area, we will be able to see you there.
