Severance (2006)

Last night after raising the aluminum tree and decorating it with vintage ornaments, it was time to relax and just chill out. Searching for something interesting to watch, I finally decided to take a chance of the horror-comedy Severance from 2006.

Plot/ A team-building weekend in the mountains of Eastern Europe goes horribly wrong for the sales division of the multi-national weapons company Palisade Defense when they become the victims of a group of crazed killers who will stop at nothing to see them dead.

Usually, any horror-comedy I watch is subpar, never truly finding that balance between the two elements. Fortunately, this one was quite different with a nice blend of creepiness, gore and comedy to keep it on track. Yes, there are some typical flaws in characterization and some story holes, but all-in-all it really works. The acting is decent, the pacing solid and most importantly the effects and gore is outstanding (did I mention the grindhouse-esque topless gunner at the end-awesome!).  In the end, this horror-comedy is a refreshing break from the typical slasher and one that should keep you entertained throughout.
