Rites of Spring (2011)
I decided that I had spent way too much time lately on
apocalyptic movies or documentaries. Yes, it was time to head back into my
youth some for a nice mindless slasher flick. Slasher flicks, especially around
the holidays have always been a weird type of tradition, as I am always
fascinated by the variety that exist. For my viewing pleasure tonight, I
decided upon Rites of Spring from 2011.
Plot/ A ransom scheme turns into a nightmare for a group of
kidnappers who become victims of a horrifying secret that must be paid every
spring.
Slasher flicks are always fun. Sure, they may not be the
best, but they are usually at least entertaining. Being a child of the early
slasher movement, it is find great killers and original characters. In this
case, the killer, Worm Face is decently original. However, much of the overall
flick is full of cliché, the multiple storylines almost spiral out of control,
and the acting is so-so. There are some positives, as the cinematography is
decent and there is some blood and violence. In the end, this may not be
perfect but it is an entertaining B-Grade slasher that is a much better
alternative to something from The Asylum.
