As I moved forward in watching creature related flicks for Cryptozoology Week, I figured it was time to move onto something a bit more modern. My selection for the day was Clawed: The Legend of Sasquatch (AKA The Unknown) from 2005.
Plot/ When a group of poachers are found dead in the deep forests of the Pacific Northwest, a mob of revenge hungry hunters pursue the beast while four high school seniors try to save it.
It is amazing how a creature like Sasquatch can span decades and generations undetected, yet, movie makers still maintain a bevy of random clichés that can be found in almost every film of the genre. Unfortunately, too much cliché can doom a film into obscurity (like this film). Yes, this is not all terrible; it has respectable performances, some creative gore (the impaled bear is awesome), a somewhat creepy atmosphere and really a decent attempt at a monster. But, while solid, there is absolutely nothing to make the movie spectacular or memorable. In the end, it is what it is, and should be viewed as such.
