It was time to get back into the swing of a decent movie schedule, and tonight was a perfect time to get to that. As I sat in with Jon and the guys from SGRA, I decided to kick back and watch a dark, torture-porn type flick on Netflix, my choice Vile from 2011.
Plot/ A group of friends stop to pick up a hitchhiking woman only to end up getting drugged by her with a gas. They awaken to find that vials have been implanted in the base of their skulls - which are of course instantly fatal if they are removed. They now have 22hrs to fill these vials with a specific amount of brain fluid to survive.
Being a fan of the Saw franchise, that is the feel I got when reading the description of this. For the most part, that is what it is, a tame, less layered torture-porn type horror flick. While this in no way measured up to Saw, there are some good points. The acting is so-so, the storyline decent, and the torture scenes work to create an uneasy feeling. Unfortunately, there is no character development, the scripting is off and there is a lot that does not make any sense. In the end, as much as I found it darkly entertaining, it was hard to stay interested because of the miserable and annoying characters. Unless you have nothing else to watch, stay away.
